On June 17, 2019, Antonia Gloria turned 100 at Desert Cove Nursing Center in Chandler, Arizona.
Gloria celebrated her special birthday with her family and friends with a party at the local VFW building on June 15. Wearing a “Straight Outta 1919” shirt, she was honored with food, cake and a performance by a mariachi band. She also received a commendation by the Arizona governor, a birthday card from a state senator and a proclamation from the Chandler mayor declaring June 17, 2019, as Antonia Gloria Day.
Married in 1940, Gloria has more than 100 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren!
Gloria had a lot of hobbies in her younger days, including sewing, embroidery, making yeast bread and even being an avid swimmer and diver into her 70s.
A resident at Desert Cove since 2016, Gloria enjoys listening to music, visiting with family and friends and getting her hair styled and nails painted.
“Her family said that she felt like a queen at her party with her tiara and shirt,” said Christine Heaps, activity director. “She loved the mariachi music!”
